NAME: Traejan Lightrend
CANON: World of Warcraft (OC)
AGE: 177
CANON POINT: just after Sylvanas destroys the Lich King's Helm of Domination
HISTORY: detailed history + links for relevant world history
PERSONALITY: Traejan leans heavily into many of the less favourable stereotypes about the Sin'dorei — or the Quel'dorei, rather, as he will definitely nitpick someone about the distinction, because he never once touched Fel magic and that's Important. He is extremely proud with an over-inflated sense of self-importance some would probably say is a symptom of growing up in the bubble of nobility, but as his mother certainly did not raise her children that way at least a part of that is a personal decision. He feels entitled to do what he wants, when he wants, and how he wants. He can be very meticulous about things — a trait that is extremely useful within his work but more troublesome when other people are involved as he can be difficult to satisfy. He is a thrill seeker and a risk taker, although the latter is the kind of thing that's way more appealing when you're sturdier than a living person. He will often do things purely for the entertainment, especially if it means he's getting to be a contrarian. It's an extremely immature attitude, being different just for the sake of the potential discourse (or believing he's somehow forging a unique path) but he can count the number of people he's willing to take constructive criticism from on one hand.
He is quite intelligent, creative, and imaginative. While part of his desire to create is to see new things brought into the world or to improve upon what already is, a lot of his drive is pure greed. Also, as much as he enjoys creating, he probably enjoys destruction even more. His more cruel side might also show itself through the lens of his work for this reason, given a willingness to pursue results relentlessly if there stands to be a gain in the end or simply because the vast majority of his creations have been weapons or explosives. He likes puzzles, so working with more complex systems like machinery and technology (or what passed for technology in his world) satisfies him. He also has some amount of medical knowledge (or at least how to take a body apart and put it back together) for the same reason.
He is far more emotional than he cares to let on. He feels strongly and deeply and has been known to act impulsively on feelings alone. He does not cope well with his more unpleasant feelings, often turning to some form of escapist behaviour such as drinking to distract himself rather than examine the problem directly. He will live in denial as long as anyone will let it stand. Despite the elven reputation for favouring "the long game", he is not someone who plots and plays at games in that way; he prefers bold action and immediate gratification. This can (and has) easily come back to bite him as he can be stubborn to a fault or act out in a way that might be detrimental long term, simply because he couldn't walk away.
His outlook on his nature as an undead creature is a meeting of opposites. While he sees himself as the superior, cultured noble he also sees himself equally as a ghoulish monster. There is no shame in any of it and he accepts both sides completely and without allowing one to diminish or invalidate the other. It has been a very long time since he has expressed any reservations about what he's had to do to survive as a Death Knight, given that their runeweapons impose vampiric urges upon them and a need to inflict pain and suffering as a power source. This has undoubtedly had an influence on how he tends to view others as he has a tendency to consider most people expendable until convinced otherwise or if he happens to take a particular liking to them.
For all of this, he does possess positive traits. To those who have managed to win his favour, he is fiercely loyal and protective. This is also true of those for whom he feels a sense of gratitude or if he is in a position where he owes a debt. Additionally, what and whom he loves, he loves genuinely. He is generous with those he is close with and more thoughtful and attentive than he typically lets on. Deep down, he fears losing those things he cares about. As far as influences in his life, women have played a stronger role. He considers women to be both more kind, strong, and trustworthy but also more potentially dangerous than men. This is largely due to the fact that his father was the only man who played a major role in his life when he was young and he tends to associate anything bad or negative with that perception of maleness. The trend continued on into adulthood as most other men he'd considered noteworthy have been similarly disappointing, such as Prince Kael'thas who ultimately betrayed the Sin'dorei or Prince Arthas himself, who he views separately from the entity of the Lich King (which he reveres as something beyond mortal men). The only exception would be his younger brother Telarion who has often impressed him by sticking to his ideals and genuinely being a good person. He still feels that way even after the difficulties they endured when Telarion made the drastic move to go back and join the Illidari. His prejudices during that time came from how he felt about demons and he realised Telarion had wrestled with similar feelings trying to reconcile the fact that Traejan had returned as a Death Knight. It should have been even easier for Traejan to forgive, since Telarion had not done what he'd done out of a desire for power or greed. Some part of him wishes he could be the sort of person Telarion is but he doesn't consider himself as being "very good at being good" and so he doesn't go out of his way any more than necessary to try and change his more negative behaviours.
SPECIES: Undead Quel'dorei (High Elf)
APPEARANCE: here!
SKILLS:
› undead physiology: without powers or magic, his state of undeath manifests like a very limited form of vampirism. he does not age but he does not have any particular immunities to anything any longer, same as any average human.
› enhanced resistances: he does not suffer from exposure to extremely low temperatures and has much higher tolerance to warm temperatures (but not fire!) than the average human.
› advanced combat skills: highly trained and experienced in hand-to-hand / unarmed combat, one-handed weapons (swords, daggers, maces), and two-handed weapons (swords, maces, axes).
› stamina: requires very little sleep and tires more slowly.
› durability: able to withstand significant physical damage (stab wounds, gun shots, etc). he has a higher than average tolerance to pain, but will definitely feel it. he can survive things that would kill a living person, but as he does not have enhanced healing he will still have to mend with time (at a normal rate) or be healed in some other way.
› engineering skills: while Azerothian technology is obviously going to be extremely low tech compared to other forms of technology, he knows his way around hardware and tools and he's got a very good mind for figuring things out, especially if he can take them apart and put them back together.
› medical / anatomical knowledge: while definitely not a trained medic, he does know his way around the body quite well. He would be quite capable of things like suturing wounds or setting broken bones, but as he's only ever put undead bodies back together one can assume it wouldn't be as soothing a process as being cared for by a proper medic.
› survival skills: he was trained as a soldier and has plenty of experience in the wilderness. He is capable of hunting, tracking, and building fires among other useful skills. He would be able to identify edible plant life and such but as he's not from Earth isn't familiar with the local flora.
› musical skills: he can read music and play several instruments (violin, piano, harpischord).
NEW POWER: Nosokinesis. The seed power level would allow him to sense microbes in the surrounding area and sense the presence of living things within a certain range (~10 ft radius) by what they carry on them. I imagine it would operate purely as an additional sense at this level, simply adding another layer of detail to things like spatial awareness and perhaps small clues (ex. someone pressing certain buttons on a keypad, etc.).
POWER REASONING: Traejan is a Death Knight of the Unholy specialisation which have a skill focus that uses pestilence and disease as their primary skill. He's also used to being bound to multiple external entities (his ghoul and skeleton constructs as well as a swarm of plague insects) so that will be familiar. It will be interesting to have an ability that is similar but will evolve in a completely different way and also gives him a mindfulness of thingswhether he likes it or not.
